Fact or bust?
Many companies globally use Omega-3 Ethyl Ester (EE) because it's much cheaper and is easier to produce. But Triglycerides (TG) are what is naturally found in the fish we eat and therefore what our bodies easily recognise. In fact, TG has been found to be 36%-48% better absorbed than EE. On top of this, Omega-3 fish oils in EE form are much less stable and decay 33% more rapidly than TG.
There are many different types of probiotics, and no two are exactly alike. This is why the exact strain of a probiotic is highly relevant especially when looking at health benefits proven in clinical trials.
Many probiotics contain B.Breve or L.Reuteri but the companies are not transparent about the strain number (the 5 digit code stated after the Genus and Species). And whilst they claim the benefits from clinical trials relating to that species, it may not be the same strain. Our probiotic strains on the other hand are the exact strains used in clinical trials for their impact on anxiety, mood and work-stress related burnout.
Take our B.Breve for example
Genus: Bifidobacterium
Species: breve
Strain: BB077
Magnesium oxide has a much higher concentration of elemental magnesium than other forms of magnesium meaning companies can save money by using less milligrams of magnesium whilst being able to claim a higher amount on the label.
Unfortunately, magnesium oxide is known to have the lowest absorption levels and is quite often harsh on the stomach causing a laxative effect. Great if that's the effect you're after. But other forms of magensium are much better if you're looking for sleep and relaxation support.
That's why our Gut & Sleep Restore Probiotic Plus uses a blend of Magnesium Malate, Magnesium Bisglycinate and Magnesium Citrate which is highly absorbable by the body and gentle on the stomach.
Many companies include ineffective doses of key ingredients for three main reasons; 1) they are cheaper to produce, 2) they can 'beef up' the label claims, and 3) they follow the percentage daily value or %DV (daily dietary recommendation).
The issues with the first and second reasons are obvious. The issue with the third reason is more complex to unpick, starting with the fact that %DV's are often outdated. %DV's were meant as a guide to help prevent deficiency and disease but those levels may not be suitable for optimal health. And they may not be suitable depending on the individual's environmental needs.
At Monmude, ensuring your mental health improves is our number one priority which is why our ingredient doses are higher than the %DVs. To determine our doses we use a combination of clinical expertise from integrative medical doctors, published research papers, clinical trials and safety limits set by regulatory bodies like Singapore's Health Science Authority (HSA) and Australia's Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA).
We also can't ignore feasibility. After hundreds of consumer interviews, it turns out that people don't want to consume more than six pills per day, nor can they afford it. Our InnerFuel program contains six pills for that reason. It is the optimal balance between fast acting symptom relief, long term health baseline benefits, affordability and realistic habit forming.
Many supplement companies want you to buy their products for as long as they can but at Monmude, our philosophy is VERY different. We prioritise results and safety over CLV (customer lifetime value).
For that reason, our InnerFuel program is designed to help you achieve your mental health gains in 12-weeks or less. In fact, we advise you NOT to take our Advanced De-Stress Bioactive B Plus product for longer than 12 weeks as many studies on Ayurvedic herbs like Ashwagandha are inconclusive on the health impact of long term use. Try and find a company selling Ashwaghanda vitamins that proactively advise you to stop taking them after 12 weeks for your own health... no luck? We didn't think so!
Our Brain Essential Fish Oil and Gut & Sleep Restore Probiotic Plus are a little different. We would advise you continue taking the Fish Oil if you're unable to build up to having fish 2-3 times per week, and we would advise you to continue the Gut & Sleep Restore if you're feeling positive effects on your gut and sleep. But we will leave this is up to you. If enough people tell us they'd prefer the 'set and forget' of a subscription we will listen, but that's not our focus for now.
